Rob was born in 1970 and grew up in Liverpool. In 1989 at the age of 18, he enrolled at Kingston Polytechnic in London to study Illustration. He always had an interest in photography, sculpture and printmaking, but he focuses mainly on painting employing acrylics, oils and watercolours.
He has exhibited his work at various galleries over the years in London and Guernsey and has gained commissions for a wide range of patrons both privately and commercially. The Guernsey Museum and Art Gallery also own a number of his works including several paintings of the old Gabriels shops on Fountain Street.
During 1999 he undertook his own Millennium project called a “Record in time”, in which he produced a painting every day throughout 1999. The resulting 356 paintings were exhibited at the millennium arts centre in Guernsey during 2000.
He repeated this project in 2010 and the results can be seen at www.zhibit.org/paintingaday
He loves to work from direct observation and use the landscape and people around him as a source of inspiration. He has a particular interest in the effects of light and loves to try and capture this in his work.
