In recognition of her ability to employ drawing and sketching as a vehicle in its own right, Sue is an elected member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art [The National Drawing Society.]
In 2017 her mixed media piece “Before and After” received “Best in Show” at the society’s annual exhibition.
In 2019 Sue gained first place in the coveted Buxton Spa Sketchbook Prize; she has been given commendations for entries in Derbyshire Open Exhibitions and – in 2017 – won a Derbyshire County Council award for her oil painting entitled “Sunday”.
A variety of subjects appear in Sue’s paintings and she employs a wide range of media. Sequences emerge as a theme is explored in detail. Everything begins with drawing from direct observation but these studies evolve into creative paintings, prints or mixed media pieces; they may even be expanded into three dimensions.
Sue has participated in a number of exhibitions in Europe [France and Germany] and has shown her work widely in the UK. Her paintings have been included in prestigious exhibitions at the Royal Watercolour Society, The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and several public museums. One person exhibitions have included a number at the Coach House Gallery, Guernsey.
A knowledgeable art historian as well as a practitioner, Sue holds a BA[Hons] Visual Art and MA Painting from the University of Wales together with an Art Teacher’s Certificate from Goldsmiths’ College, London.
