Elizabeth Adams is a Guernsey artist originally from the West Midlands where she studied art and design specialising in graphics and Birmingham College of Art. Elizabeth’s career includes retail catalogue design in Worcester and London, the design and fabrication of garments from Jaeger freelance illustration, portrait commissions ceramics and more.
She became an art teacher in 1989 teaching 11 to 18-year-old students at Elizabeth College and latterly A-level at Ladies’ College. Her passion for teaching others has extended to all walks of life. She has organised themed courses for children and adults as well as private tutoring often working from the energy of the flora and vegetation in her studio greenhouse. She volunteers art and craft lessons at Les Bourgs Hospice.
She is known for commissioned portraits, some of which can be viewed in public places such as her portraits of retired Bailiffs in the Royal Court. Her private commissions include portraits of children and adults as well as illustrations of senior military officers working for NATO. She exhibits widely and has recently developed Artenthusia, an online display of her work which aims to inspire a passion for art with others. Latterly she and her work have appeared on both French and German television and are included in the BBC UK Artist Catalogue.
Elizabeth demonstrates a fine perception of colour and light by capturing Guernsey’s ever-changing landscape throughout the seasons by highlighting the Island’s unique natural light. Her paintings, whether in oils or pastels invoke different emotions and will never fail to impress you.
